Though out of their control, the lack of personal electronics in the building made things more difficult for us. I enjoyed the academics of the school and especially loved certain teachers which made class engaging. The only downside of the academics aspect was that I was not allowed to take AP classes in my freshman year and wasn't allowed to take more than one AP class my sophom*ore year, which had to be an AP history class . Another highlight of the school are definitely the competitive culture of the sports and the enthusiastic school spirit. However, I would say one of the biggest downsides of Yorktown is the overall culture of the school. I find that, from my experience as someone who came to Yorktown out of state, the school was very cliquey. At least for me, this was a big challenge for me when I was trying to make friends and it took me a few months to find my footing socially. However, overall, I would recommend this school and would say that it does prepare you well for college.... I know some teachers came from Williamsburg Middle School, Arlington Traditional School, and other schools. The safety in the school is 4/5 because all basic safety measures are in place for COVID-19 such as current indoor face mask requirement, hand sanitizer available across the school, and others like individually packaged meals for lunch.
